General Electric Transportation

12 years ago I had a design position with General Electric in Erie Pa.   My job was was to design parts for the Radiator section of the  Locomotive.    The work at GE was very fast pace.  We had 6 to 8 weeks before the Locomotive was going to be produce.   The design work was challenging with  customer changes during the build.   Some of the programs China Mainland, Poland, Russia, US train companies and last was for Pilbara Mining company in Australia. 

The building I worked in had a lot of history.   It was build in 1911 for making refrigerators.   As I found out the plant produce searchlights for Navy.   Complete turrets for Navy Destroyer. The first production Jet engine for the USAF.  Recently I discovered they made 75 mm Pack Howitzers.

I never knew how much General Electric and the city of Erie Pa contributed to war effort during WW2.

The train hauling ore was 6 miles long.  The locomotive would only stop for fuel and water.

Confederate Cook and Brother rifles and carbine

I have a great love for civil war era arms.  For 25year I made first class replicas of  civil war rifles and carbine for peopl in the N-SSA.  The N-SSA or North south skirmish association is a live fire group of  civil war shooter. 

The Cook and brothers carbine was one I wanted to make but didn't get around to it.  This company made enfield pattern rifles and carbine.   They at the beginning of the war where some of the finest weapons around..   Here is a great video on the Cook and Brothers firearms.

ASL Solitaire PT2

ASL Solitaire Part 1

Finding a copy of this module isn't easy.  When you do the price is pretty high.  If one can't find a face to face player this becomes the only option.  The ASL group I play with said that the systems works pretty well.   Here is an excellent video on the module.

Advanced Squad Leader Storage solutions and Tools

As you have found out if you are a ASL player that storage can be a problem.  Lucky for me the group of players I have joined give me good advice. 

1.  Buy Plano 3700 series boxes.  5 x 32 compartment.
2. Good ring binders.  These are to store your maps broads and scenario cards.


This video pretty well answers most questions.

Advance Squad Leader components explained.

I know when I opened the ASLSK box I thought.  Crap look at all these parts.  Then how do they all work together to make the game playable.  My poor old brain started to spin.  Lucky for my I have a mentor.  David Lamb is the mentor I have to guide me through the maze of playing ASL.   Lucky for me David is one of the elite ASL player and designer in the country.   He along with PJ Norton, Fred Schwartz and Robert Davis are some of the best in the ASL world.   All to these gentlemen have been playing ASL since the 80's.    More of this later in posts in the future. 

Now for the video.  If you like the ASL system and have  a son or daughter.  See if they are willing to play the game.  It is exciting to play. Also a little cheap to play than miniature gaming.
