157 years ago the Battle for Fort Donelson began 14 Feb 1862
14 February 1862 – American Civil War – General Ulysses S. Grant maneuvers his army to attack Fort Donelson, TN by land while US naval gunboats attack via the Cumberland River. Meanwhile, the Confederates hold off the gunboats and prepare to fight their way out of Grant's trap the next day. The Battle of Fort Donelson was fought from February 12–16, 1862, in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. (Fort Donelson National Battlefield)
