Found an un exploded artillery on Little round top

Earlier today, an unexploded ordnance shell was found within the Little Round Top rehabilitation area. The 55th Ordnance Disposal Company EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) team from Fort Belvoir VA (U.S. Army) safely removed the shell before it was destroyed off-site. The EOD team gently washed off the mud to allow park staff to photograph the shell.

And all closed roads have reopened.

  1. Surprised this hasn't turned up sooner. Too bad they have to destroy it. Would make a nice museum piece (If it could be disarmed safely)

  2. You would be surprised at the amount of unexploded shells are laying around the civil war battlefield. It the area had a heavy rain. The shell would buried itself deep in the ground. I had a friend who in the Winchester VA area. The town changed hand 56 time during the Civil War. One of his cut down an old growth tree. Buried inside was an unexploded shell. The tree was hit by it and just grew around it.
