Oil-paint dirt effects & Blending

Tips are from Spud Murphy's modeling bench FB. page  More can be found here.Spud Murphy modeling page.

Neat oil paints mixed to the desired colour. Once the linseed oil had been given time to soak away into the cardboard.

Final feathering completed with a soft-flat blending brush.

The oil paint is then carefully stippled onto the desired area.

Hougomount Farm in 1/30 scale

This is truly an amazing game table. The hours spent to create the farm mist be a work

of love.

Jet age CY6

The photos are from Bernard Rauch. Here are his comments. If you live in Southern Pine,NC area you find him at the local hobby shop

Did a game day at our local hobby store to introduce some new people to the game. Fairly well received, two individuals played and several others expressed interest. If I had to do it over again I would have done Korea scenarios, no missiles or afterburners yo deal with.

House cleaning the Blog.

Amazing that my blog is still running after 13years. It was time to clean the list if Blogs I have been following. Sadly many great blog have disappeared or just have gone dormant.  The ones that lead to dead links or virus infected one have been deleted.  One that still open to a blog that had great content and information I kept.

It seems that 2019 has been the time frame where blogger tossed in the towel. A lot time I have been thinking the same thing. Not nay comments to my posts or some Indian or Chinese spam bot posts. One day I may disappear.  Not getting younger 74 years of age.  The dirt nap could be just around the corner,

Close action 10 Jun 2023 at Gopher Games by Berry Hudek " Dueling 74s: Bellona vs. Courageux"

It is good to close action is being played. This is Rich Uncles Pat's favorite age of sai rule set.

Gopher Games, Urbana, IL, June 10th

17 turns
4 players, two first-time players
2.5 hours of game time

Result
  • French VPs: 36.7
  • British VPs: 35.05
  • Point Difference: 1.65
  • Percentage Difference: 4.6%
  • Very Narrow French Victory/Draw
Ships
  • French: 74 and two 32s (all in C)
  • British: 74 and a 36 (all in B)
  • Squads are facing each other
The first-time players each took a 74 and the experienced players took the frigates (I ran the British 36). I slipped toward the French frigates in an effort to play-out the historical action...Bellona takes on Courageux and I take on the French frigates.

This happened, more or less, but not quite to plan or history. I gave the French frigates an opening to jump on Bellona if they wanted to. They did not. Instead we fought hard in the early going as the 74s were both a bit tentative to engage. Bellona ended up engaging the French frigates more so than planned and Courageux took a few shots at me in the middle rounds.

In the last few turns, the big ships got within pistol shot and had some nice broadsides. All frigates were rendered combat ineffective, Hermine ended the game at G, but disengaged to avoid striking. Both 74s lost sections, but had plenty of firepower ended. We needed to make time for lunch and the afternoon session, so we ended at 17 turns, but the 74s could certainly have carried on.  First-time players enjoyed the game with Bellona's captain REALLY enjoying his first foray into CA.

Another fun, competitive action from the Scenario Starter Pack.

GM Notes
  • I did all the gunnery results, players figured gunnery numbers
  • Players moved their own ships
  • I did not use Phased Movement as I was pressed for time and had two first-time players
  • No collisions (one successful bearing away by Bellona)
